I personally like this one better. DId u every play a Myst game? Cuz i am still amazed at the resemblance. I just wanna move the hand over that little ball thing and click on it and see what happens! =)
Thank you for the opinion. :) I think I do so too because the lightning is softer and the textures more nuanced but the other one is nice in it's own way.
I think I played around with the first Myst, I don't know, maybe 6 years ago. But that was only for a couple of hours and I never got so far with it. (I had no computer of my own at that time...) I remember vaguely that it was a very fascinating environment you got to know there.
I just put these object randomly in an appealing constellation on a small table when I shot it. Most of it is fancy goods my wife got on our shelves at home. :) I did it just as a spur of the moment as the light was so nice in that corner of the room.
Thank you Mimi, you are welcome. :) I think my wife have pretty good taste too. (The crystal is mine though. ^_^) I love oriental / middle-east ornaments of this sort.
I'm late getting here (as usual), but I definitely prefer this to the other one. I think the detail is intriguing enough to want to see it clearly. One thing I think detracts a litle is the shadow on the bowl, more or less dead centre. I'm not sure what the object is that's casting the shadow, but I'd try moving it forward a little. The shadows on the backdrop are soft and add to the image, but this one is harder and hides some interesting detail. That's a minor criticism, tho' - this is a very atmospheric still life and you've achieved a very nice colour palette that really suits the subject :-)
Thank you so much for the hint on one of the mistakes I made in this shot. It's something I actually didn't see until you mentioned it. Advice like that is priceless for me. (And I hope to get more in the future too. ^_^)
It's so easy to get blind for ones own work after a while. It's not so likely I do a re-shoot of this one (I tired myself somewhat during the photo sessions I had to fix material for my team - all in all I took well above 1700 shots ^_^) but I'll keep the advice in mind for later works. I could try the dodge tool in PS I guess but I doubt it will work seamlessly in this case.
BTW the object throwing the shadow is some kind of bell. :)
Nice arrangement Klas...the shadowing is quite interesting. I agree that this is the better shot. Do you know where your wife got the tall vase? I am very interested in its origin.
Thanks for the comment Darryl. I asked my wife and she said it was from her grandfather who was a sailor and that he brought it back from the middle east, probably Syria.
