i know the dof could be a little bigger , but i din't have the time to change the setting ; it landed i took the frame and it was gone in 2 seconds . feel free to be critical.
Another great shot Kristof. This guy is a little washed out in the bright light but there's no loss of detail and the subject is well composed. Might be able to adjust the gamma in PS for better saturation? anne :-)
Don't tell me it's good, tell me what is good about it. Don't tell me it stinks, tell me what I can do do improve it. Thank you for taking the time to tell me anything at all. Be blessed. anne :-)
WoW Kristof, this is great. The composition is terrific and the detail down to the transparency of the wings is magnificant. Thanks for sharing this. Anita
It's a great shot, Kristiof. Very well composed, or cropped. It is a bit hot/light, though. I applied negative Gamma, a bit of Contrast and Sharpen, then brought back about 1/3 of positive Gamma.
This brought out almost full detail, in the refective area of the tail, minimized the shallow depth of field, and in my estimation, made it an even more dramatic shot.
If you'd like to see it, I'd be happy to send you a copy. It's a great shot.

you captured SO much detail for having to take it so quickly. i really like the shallow DOF, it makes it a bit more interesting. the angle you have is really cool, i always thought their wings were for the most part fairly flat, but the back wings look like they are raised in places. they few stalks of grass and nothing else keep the focus on the dragon fly. very well done, great timing! ~abby
Mighty good shot even if you had to take it on the fly. It is pretty well focused on a better part of the dragonfly. Good capture and I can not seem to get enough of viewing those little creatures. Thanks for the picture.
Awesome capture. I love photos of these little insects. Their bodie's are so fun to examine and study the complex structure. And, they have such a variety of colors. Another great macro.

Anything that excites me for any reason, I will photograph; not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.

A lovely portrait of a male Black-tailed Skimmer Kristof. As you say, they are so quick an opportunist shot is all you can get sometimes. I think you did well with this one and the tip of the abdomen being soft only focusses the attention more on the wings, which, along with the compound eyes, are the most amazing thing about dragonflies.
Cheers,
Steve.
