I was looking for subjects to shoot in a garden when I came across this amazingly coloured bee, he seemed to be ailing as he did not move much which allowed me to get up close and snap off this shot before he moved on. I later found him on the pavement... RIP mr bee :) enjoy.

Fantastic image Luke! I have never seen a bee like this... a wonder he can fly with that big body and small delicate wings. Really great detail and capture!

Super shot, the bees over there look pretty mean:) You've done a great job with the focusing here. Fantastic work.

Great work Kursed. He looked like he was in his prime as well. I guess he came out for spring too early. Hope you found a suitable matchbox coffin. I'll pay a moment of respect when I next pour honey over my weetabix. He looks like he was in the transition to flight though in this image. I love these kind of macro's that enable the spectator to see every detail of the subject. You have done it very well here. Any self-respecting entomologist would pay a fortune for this one. 10/10.

Hi Luke: According to aeronautical calculations, due to the size and shape of his body in relation to his wing area, the Bumble Bee cannot fly. The Bumble Bee doesn't know this however; so he goes ahead and flys anyway. This seems to be the case with your Bee. Great Shot. 10/10 Take Care, BobZee
