I found this guy while shoveling some sand. They live far in the ground and only come out in heavy rains. Their pupils are vertical like a cat's which makes him look like the most evil toad I've ever seen.
Ewww .... ugly looking thing... lol... great shot though... very clear... can see all the details when full viewed... every piece of sand on him.. lol.. and that eye is amazing.. very well done
"I wrote your name on a piece of paper but by accident I threw it away...
I wrote your name on my hand but it washed away...
I wrote your name in the
sand but the waves whisked it away....
I wrote your name in my heart and forever it will stay........."
I love him... He can come live in my garden any time.. I have two now, not nearly enough.. They aren't pretty, but they keep the bugs out of the garden.. Nice capture, they are rather shy when confronted.. How did you get him to stay still long enough???
Morwyn: This particular species of toad is not shy at all. In fact, a couple of weeks ago my neighbor unearthed the first one I had ever seen and he said it made grumbling noises at him. Aparently they just sit still until you leave them alone and then they hop away. They also secrete toxins from their skin that can be poisonus if gotten in your eyes, nose or mouth. I did some research on them after seeing my neighbor's and I couldn't resist some shots of this one I found today. I have some other shots that are more close up of the eyes that I may post.
What a spectacular shot.. i love how well focussed it is, and from how close you took it. i've never seen this type of toad before. Kinda scarier than most, and if the fairytales were true, would make an interesting looking prince if kissed :-)
Hard to say which shot I like better. Both are 10's in my book. Even though it's the same subject, with the focus on the eye in the other one, you set a totally different ton. Love this one, too.
i've seen both of your toad shots and they're both amazing! i like this one better because of the warmer colours.. and the lightning looks even more fabulous on this one! and the grass looks very good on this one, while the green adds a more natural environment...
my compliments for the outstanding composition and the lightning! but the tremendous details deserve the biggest praise! wow.. that eye :) simply breathtaking!
thank you for sharing this great images of this funny little fellow with us! have a nice day :)
This is one stunning looking photography and the detail is a 100%.The eye is amazing and you have great focus on this toad.Plus thanks for the history behind the scene.
