Skagway, Alaska, USA. Described as rustic architecture, this unusual building facade is comprised of various size logs, placed in a patchwork pattern along with classical features done in the rustic pattern. "The Arctic Brotherhood Hall was built in 1899 for the Fraternal Order of the Arctic Brotherhood. Eleven men organized the fraternity on February 26, 1899, while en route from Seattle to Skagway. They formed the Arctic Brotherhood to provide mutual assistance, friendship, and social interaction in the northern communities of Alaska and the Yukon." (cruises.about.com) Skagway was the starting point for the Klondike Gold Rush. Enjoy!

I like the angle Thad. It really shows how much work went into getting the logs prepared for this building. You build with what you have. I like the info as well.

Thad, you have taken us to many locations with many wonderful and unusual sites. I like this one a lot. Even the lettering on the building used logs.

I must be in movie mode today, because this makes me think of the old John Wayne movie, "North To Alaska." I remember street scenes in it, that could have possibly been right outside a structure like this. I love your take on it, and the textures in all the logs. Very nice, Thad.

A very interesting image and a ditto narrative, Thad. The image is captured with a good angle, so creating a well chosen perspective. Well done again, my friend.

Regards, Cornelius.

When you think you've seen it all.....lol. Wow, what a construction. I wonder if they didn't have help from the native peoples there. Thanks for showing us this fascinating structure, Thad.

My goodness, that would take a very long time to do the outside. Really like all the textures the sticks/branches are creating. Wonderful capture and angle

Well, dear Thad, now having read your narrative, I do accept it as rustic.
At first I had some doubts - some [not to name Biffo] tried to fool me with some beauties which were definitely not rustic LOL
This image is quite strange and unusual, but most appealing.

Looks like termite heaven. Do they have woodpecker problems? A unique looking architecture. Great textures and details in your photo, Thad. I like the angle in the shot.

I hate to say it, Thad, but I was wondering the same thing as Wendell. They say that great minds think alike, but it this case it's more like over medicated paranoid schizophrenics think alike. I can tell from the angle of your shot that a straight on shot was less desirable. I like the perspective on your posting which shows some wild and intricate craftsmanship. However, that little sign in the lower left that says "visitors" makes me think that a wider angle might have revealed some of those pesky tourists that invade many of your previous vacation shots. I'm thinking of your southeastern U.S. trip in particular since nobody could keep up with you as you climbed those rocks in Maine. A fine and unique shot of one wild looking building.
