Naples, Florida, USA. The historic Naples Pier extends into the Gulf of Mexico, always a pretty sight at sunset. With the beginning of a direct hit by Hurricane Erma, I hope everyone there stays safe and damages are minimal. With an elevation of about 3 feet, a large storm surge could be devastating to Naples.

Thad, to me, living in an area below sea level (Zeeland, The Netherlands) and victim (in my childhood days) of flooding, your narrative is touching. I hope with you that the hurricane 'Irma' causes no other drowned people and that everyone stay safe in the threatened area!

Hope, after the passing of 'Irma', that you can take a similar wonderful photograph like this one, my friend!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I too love Naples when I was there Thad - I have the same wishes for the area although Marco Island did take a direct hit.

Hope there is not to much damage in that area. And that it will all be as beautiful as this photo soon again. Fine capture.

Oh, man, for just a moment after enlarging this one I thought that cloud bank in the distance was a tsunami. Phwew! Excellent image, by the way.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
