Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA. From the vantage of the south rim trail in front of the El Tovar Hotel, here is a late afternoon capture of the canyon looking north. In the foreground is a plateau that is a half-mile above the Colorado River and a half-mile below our view point. On it is the Garden Creek and several trails, one leading to the plateau edge, another that continues down to and across the river, following the Bright Angel Creek. Along the Garden Creek is the Indian Garden, a grove of large cottonwood trees; to get some perspective, it is four and a half miles down the trail from the south rim. The Blue Angel Canyon leads to the north rim. If you are interested in a hike, the trail from the south rim to the Phantom Ranch is almost 10 miles long, with an average 10 degree grade along it entire length.
