Pretty cool, looks like it could come rolling down on ya any minute! Probably from some old logging mill or something. It looks like there is a groove for some kind of belt sytem on the wheel.
I saw this image in the voting booth. Your subject is interesting - a wheel sitting out somewhere in the forest. There is a lot of clutter though which makes it tough to really figure out what you were trying to emphasize in this image. Your "Just doing his thing" image is a better example if using isolation to emphasize an image element. Also if you use a tripod and a smaller aperture when shooting an image like this you can get more stuff in focus, and make your image a lot more clear.
Sometimes it's hard for me to discard an image I like, or an image that I made of an interesting subject matter, but I wind up throwing out about 99 out of every 100 images I shoot. That's an improvement from where I started when I was throwing out 499 out of every 500 images I shot. Art is cruel. At least it is to me. Keep 'em coming.
Well, aside from the good advice that ®mar gave you I have to tell you that this wheel is still used, and used to steer the mountain in the right direction when the seasons change. I know you don't believe me, but very few mountains have these directional devices, and the ones that do most usually get their pictures on places like....Caedes :O)
