this anhinga { some call them snake birds because their necks are long and snake-like} was perched near a huge cypress. I had to manip the gamma and contrast a bit to get him to stand out from such similar colors....
Definantely a favorite of mine. Love the bird pics and this one has a nice contrast to the background even though the colors are similar. Excellent job, thanks for sharing, Don

the colours and the vertical lines are perfect
it might be tiny bit tight over the birds head but thats very minor
i love how the bottom wet part of the tree matches he bottom dark brown of the bird and the upper parts match too :D
its a great pose since the bird is off the the side almost on the edge looking in it takes our eyes back into the shot which is again helped by the slope of the stick
overall the image is a tiny bit soft (focused but soft) which give is a gentle glow on the feather tips esp around the neck
youve managed to catch the merest hint of detail in the eye inc something of a natural catchlight any less and that wouldnt work nearly as well
looks like youve got your water and other birds around you and i have my forests and stretches of clear fresh water :) shame i didnt catch a stork on film (sensor) this year
Can't always give individual thanks but I am so appreciative of everyone's comments and input. I truly enjoy seeing all of your posts and am always happy to see you at My Gallery. Thanks, Anita
Amazing how bird & tree are colored so closely alike! I would imagine that's by natures design. Very majestic looking bird & excellent photography of said bird also! Is that Natl. Geographic I hear calling???? C):-) *

Just beautiful shot! The background's really amazing and works well with the bird. It's a bit noisy though and also I don't know if the borders work with this one so well even that they are so subtle. Overall it's just wonderful wonderful (don't care about my whining) :)
To keep this short, I agree with every single remark above, and thank you for a picture of an amazing bird I've never seen in real life. Your manip was highly successful.
These are not my favorite colors, but here they somehow seem just right and I'm keeping this for my desktop.
An excellent capture Terri of this beautiful bird. It appears that it's feet are webbed, so are these birds swimmers as well? You did a magnificent job of making the bird stand out more. One of your best ... Bravo!!!!!
He's sure beautiful, Terri; I've never seen a bird like this before. You've got some beauties there. Your efforts paid off well to help him stand out. Well done!
Nice job Terri ... You can manip the gamma and contrast on my bird pictures anytime. I've never seen one of these birds up close ... thanks for giving me a GOOD look.
During my nine years in Orlando I also heard them called water turkeys. The bane of fisherman, if they are near you can bet the big fish aren't. Excellent capture, Terri. I love your bird series.
