this HUGE dragonfly was just hangin outside my window yesterday....and was very obliging and friendly for a few poses.... I just shoulda used my tripod....maybe it woulda been a bit clearer....but I was afraid he'd fly away before I could get it so I snapped and here's what I captured...

Now that Dragon Fly, looks like it wants to come in. You know, there are some customs that revear the Dragon fly into the realms of that of faries and other mystical creature. They always remind me of dancers for some reason. Your capture is fantastic and one you should be proud of my friend, for it is a beauty.

Don’t worry about the tripod Terri. You use it when you can and do the best you can the rest of the time. You got a frame filling shot of a dragonfly. I can see the eyes, veins and colours clearly. Well done it’s a beauty.

I agree ... any blur in this is very minimal ... the wings are quite clear judging from the veins. Tri-pods are wonderful when you have TIME to plan a shot. I wish I had a nickel for every time I missed just viewing a bird because I ran for the binoculars only to return and the opportunity had vanished. You had little choice Terri and you did well with this capture.

Huge is right Terri! This looks like a female Giant Darner [Anax walsinghami] which is North Americas largest Dragonfly measuring in at around 4" long!! Apparently it's only found in the South Western states - is this where yu're from? Excellent spur of the moment capture. I don't think you could have improved on this much even if you'd had more time, tripod etc. I'll post a pic of one of UK's largest tonight.
Cheers,
Steve.

Ya know… a sharpening mask could probably clear that guy's wings right up and bring them into "focus" a bit better. Cuz other than that, I don't see nuttin wrong here… 8•)
