I couldn't resist. I saw this storm coming and thought it would be great to photograph. Then I was horribly disappointed by the torrential amount of rain that came with it. I'm not ready to put the camera in the rain. But just as I was thinking about putting things away for the night, the rain stopped and the electricity didn't end. It wen on for a good 20 minutes. I lots of interesting shots, but I thought this was the best. I hope you like it. Same set up as for shooting fireworks. I imagine the same would work for things like the Aurora (which I'll have to travel to catch). Manual mode, focus to infinity, set to bulb and hold the shutter open until you have your capture. Then you just need a spot of luck.

OMG! Incredible, just incredible!!! For the second or two of luck here, there's YEARS of skill in that image. Darkening the edges gives it just the right finishing touch. Awesome, awesome photograph.

Thanks for the lesson within your narrative. I'm so anxious to try this technique again. I used it last year and got at least one decent firework shot, but so far no luck for me this year!

Very nicely done.

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

I admit I used a wide angle lens then cropped down to this with a touch of photoshop finishing, but the lightning is 100% authentic. I just tried to improve it a little.
