Neuschwanstein: The last madness of the king Louis II of Bavaria. Big admirer of Wagner. Walt Disney was inspired by this castle for the drawing that begins all his animate movies
Thanks for looking! Actually this castle is about an hour away from where I live, and it is a big tourist trap. There is another castle that is right next door called Hohenschwangau. I took a few shots of that one as well, and I plan to post some of them today. It's too bad pictures aren't allowed inside.... too tell you the truth I was able to squeeze off just a few shots inside, but I think they'll be mad if I post them and they found out! I'll just keep them to myself for the time being. It wasn't that remarkable to tell you the truth, just a lot of artwork from Wagner's operas, as ppigeon pointed out. The castle is unfinished for the most part because Ludwig II was declared mentally insane and removed from power (and killed a day later), so there wasn't even a throne in there. You all have to see it one day, it's great. Thanks for all of the comments!
Yeah, I have a picture from almost the exact same angle as you! Only mine was taken earlier than you and on an overcast day. I love that whole view along the Romantischstraße.
Picture is great, and the tree shadows don't detract at all. Otaku..... If you wish to police the use of nouns, make sure you are correct first :) That would include spelling :)
pleth·o·ra [ pléthərə ] (plural pleth·o·ras)
noun
1. large or excessive amount or number: a very large amount or number of something, especially an excessive amount
Hey, thanks Witchy! I was going to say something about the correction of my "correct usage" of this word, but I thought it was sufficiently clear that Otaku didn't really mean it seriously. Thanks for looking!
i cant belive u guys actually looked that one up in the dictionary and then put in all the funny symbols. oh well, perhaps i am just lazy; i dont even bother with pressing shift for capital letters. great picture marbleknight. i want to go to germany one day.
King Louis II might have been mad but how many sane people will leave such a splendid reminder when they are gone? This is a marvellous image. Congratulations.
I'd like to see the same shot at different times of the day (and night, with lights in the windows), and different times of the year (snow perhaps?).
This reminds me that once you find a really great view (like the one you have here), you should always return to that place at some other time, under different conditions, and snap some more shots - preferably from the same angle(s). I've seen some image series of this kind (morning+midday+evening+night or summer+autumn+winter+spring), and they really offer a new dimension. (Would possibly make great collages too.)
Ah, yes...my daughter was recently married in Fussen and had the reception at Hohenschwangau below Neuschwanstein. I love this area that I first visited more than 30 years ago. I'm guessing you took this shot from the bridge over the waterfall. It s agreat shot, but it doesn't "pop" I'm guessing a bit of "levels" work in photoshop or photoImpact would bring out the color and contrast. If you can, boost it up to 16 bits, do your manip and then bring it back to 8 bits. The adjustements will be much smoother that way.
