As I walked along the Trans-Canada Trail I came upon the site of an old campfire with this tiny yellow sapling. So many thoughts of regeneration rushed through me that I had to get a memory of it. The reason it is looking a little yellow is from the lack of acid surrounded by the basic environment of the coals.

From the ashes grow great pines. It takes the heat of a fire to open the cones so the seeds can germinate. This shows that nature will win in the end. Thank you.

Wonderful contrast of color, light, and of thought as well. This is what a macro photo should be. People forget -- just because you can take a close-up doesn't mean that you don't have to take a photograph; this one is just that, a beautiful photograph that makes you think, like a good poem. Thank you for this.

Succeeds wonderfully on a couple levels. First, the symbolism is just as you suggest, rebirth, out of the ashes, life from death. But it is also wonderful as an almost abstract visual of black and dark gray tones and lines juxtaposed against a stunning burst of color in radial lines. Very creative, and the result certainly lived up to your intentions.

This is a beautiful picture Darryl. I love how nature works ^.^ Maybe it's just me, but the actual sprout seems out of focus(?). But anyhoo, nice work :)

Wow, 10. I agree with both Mike and Robert here. It hits me as an abstract in both the color and textures. And wonderful job with the black coal.

Can't add much to the above other than I truly appreciate your sense of perspective, your attention to detail, and your innate ability to spot what many would walk over.

Really nice.

Much has been said in the above comments ... I would like to echo one in particular ...

"... I truly appreciate your sense of perspective, your attention to detail, and your innate ability to spot what many would walk over."

I wish that I could say that the words were taken out of my mouth, but, I can't ... I can however, wholeheartedly agree, ... and ... I do.

Thanks for your taking your time and effort in producing these fantastic shots.

This picture says so much. The color of the little sapling stands out so bright against the dark background. This was a great picture. Glad that we had the chance to see it :)

I logged onto Caedes tonight and this was one of the first 3 images that I saw. I'm amazed at the beauty and resiliency of life. How does that saying go? "Life will find a way". How true here and you captured it perfectly.
