Safe to eat? I think so, as long as it's well cooked. I haven't met anyone who actually does eat them though. Especially if the mushrooms aren't as well preserved as this one, they are easily confused with other species from the amanita family that are more toxic. The most well known is the red topped fly agaric. If you eat the wrong mushroom, you can get symptoms such as delerium, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, liver failure and death. Not necessarily in that order although death always comes last.
