The Leaning Tower of Pisa continues to lean. The photo was taken at 7 a.m., before the crowds of tourists showed up. This also marks my first B/W post in Caedes. I appreciate your comments and thank you for looking. Doug

Great B/W image of this world famous tower Doug. I have been up there once when my ship was in Livorno and was quite impressed.

Doug, I was told that technically the skew could be resolved but that would implicate that tourists wouldn't come to Pisa anymore. As long as the tilt remains within acceptable limits, nothing will be done.

Very good and interesting B&W image!

Regards, Cornelius.

and a great B/W it is doug. its funny looking back to school & seeing pictures wondering why it dont fall. later in life seen a documentary on tv one day, amazing story around this building. then there was a guy standing next to it acting like he was holding it up posing for a picture..no doubt an american..lol. im sure you seen the same thing once the crowds came.

It looks great in b/w, Doug. If one were tipsy and leaning the other way, would it appear straight? :)
One of the world's most recognizable landmarks. You did it justice with your shot.

I had the privilege of seeing this once. I always wonder what went through the minds of the builders when they realized it was leaning. The engineer in me would want to rip it out and start over. Italians tend to be artists, they must have said - the heck with it, it looks cool this way. If they had started over, the tower never would have become famous. And, of course Galileo needed a test platform for his theory of gravity.(Actually that's another fantasy, he actually used inclined planes.)

I see in this scene people are taken notice of the warning signs and staying well back.Nice black and white photography with lovely sharp detail as well.

Never saw this kind of close-up before Doug - I think the B&W works but I personally tried it with a little less brightness and slightly more contrast and even more detail came out. Your composition perfectly accents the lean.
