These are leaves of a Canna plant in our backyard. Cannas can grow 4 ft tall or more with flowers that can reach 4" across on upright stalks in a range of colors white, yellow, red, and pink. I have looked at this plant countless times ... photographed it several times but, never with the eyes of a Caedes member. ... I hope to capture a blossom before the summer is out.

Been a "Meat & Potatoes" man all my life. Pretty much how I took pictures. Nothing fancy. Wildlife, Landscapes, whatever ... always looking at the "big picture". Never taking the time to notice all the details that make up that "big picture". Caedes has shown me what I've been missing. I asked myself how some of our talented Artists might shoot this beautiful plant. Rather than capturing the entire plant I tried to focus on a small portion of it's beauty. This is what I came up with. Thought it had some promise. Still have much to learn, but maybe ... just maybe ... Muggsy is starting to see things in a whole new way, thanks to some very talented friends at Caedes.

Just an old "Grampa" who still has a Kodak "Box" camera kicking around the attic ... learning and enjoying the wonders of modern digital photography.

John, good stuff! I really like all the lines. Looks like that plant has great potential for some abstracts.

John, you've done well to look past the obvious. It's much harder to make an ordinary photo interesting than to capture a beautiful bloom, for example. The shapes and shadows here can let the imagination run wild. This image would probably stand up to a number of different effects being applied. My hat's off to you for your courageous move into the closer world! Now, how about just one leaf? :)) - Patty

"Running Wild". That's the title that came to mind upon viewling the leaves of this plant. You were right in capturing only a part of the plant instead of the whole thing. Love the pattern and colors. Well done, Muggsy.

Hi John, boy, this is lovely indeed, and oh yes, you do have the right idea, in my opinion! You have changed the entire personality of the flower while focusing on and by capturing only a portion of the lovely plant! This image is graceful and free flowing as that of a lovely silk gown and worn by the lady of the 'waltz'! You did a fantastic job with this image and I love it! The colors are soft and gentle, and very pleasing to the eye! Nice work John~! Sincerely, Marilyn

I wan't even aware there were varieties of Canna Lily that had these kinds of variegated leaves. I like these, coleus and anything that has coloration rather than just green all the time. They add such a point of interest in the garden.

Never rebuke while you’re still indignant about a fault committed—wait until the next day, or even longer. Then calmly, and with a purer intention, make your reprimand. You’ll gain more by a friendly word than by a three-hour quarrel. -Josemaria Escriva

Hi John..I'm not sure how I missed seeing this lovely Canna Lily...it's just wonderful, the colours and designs of nature. I just love the different stripes and pinks and greens. We have them here in ORegon too...and yes, they really DO get very tall.
I'm looking forward to seeing brand NEW greenery and colours from you this Spring..and sharing them with all of us.Verena

Do not wait; the time will never be "just right."Start where you are and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.
