Spent a week in the Adirondacks 10/6 thru 10/13 hoping to catch the Fall colors which can be awesome at peak. I arrived a bit late in as much as the "peak" had passed illustrated by the lack of deep red in sight. Cloudy skies quite often kept rich color from view also. See comment below...

On a sightseeing drive looking for scenic views I glanced in my rear view mirror and saw this scene behind me. I stopped the car and snapped this. A friend of mine told me that Dewitt Jones a noted Photographer and motivational speaker had advised to always turn around when looking for a subject or even after finding one you like ... because what lies behind you in different perspective and lighting oftentimes surpasses what you seek . It's advice I found to be true and a lesson well learned in this case. Had I not looked behind me I would have missed this shot which I happened to like ... maybe you will too.

Just an old "Grampa" who still has a Kodak "Box" camera kicking around the attic ... learning and enjoying the wonders of modern digital photography.

Gorgeous John, just breathtaking. First, I'm so glad you looked in the rear view mirror ;) and then to get this glorious sight out here for us to view is just too much. The fall foliage is just lovely and looking back down that road, downhill, leaves one wondering what's around the bend...of course you would know since you came from there ;) This is truly a delightful post and a keeper for sure my friend. Thanks so for putting it out here for us to enjoy.

Oh mercy. You have outdone yourself. This is wonderful. I knew you had to have some of these. That is good advice you received about looking behind you. The fall colors are beautiful. You probably gave your camera one heck of a workout in those mountains. I only got up thru there about two time on my way into Canada. Beautiful country. More please.

Where we've been often defines where we are going next ... it's always good to take inventory! This is beautiful, John -- composition is grand and it has a great feel to it! Thanks for sharing the story Behind it :))

Hi Mugsy,
I do like this photo, we have autumn colours like these over here but if I wanted to see a road this empty I'd have to emigrate!!

I've done the same thing John. Funny how something looks different sometimes in the opposite direction isn't it?. The colors here are still gorgeous even though they've surpassed their peak colors. I would so enjoy driving down this road just to admire the view. Good work my friend.

I love this area, and was close by myself that same weekend! Your words about looking back, I've realized the same thing! Great road shot John.

Just looking your gallery over, and found this beautiful picture. I love the view from the road, and the mountains in the distance. Great shot.
