Our "Birdman" Gregg has posted many wonderful bird images. Recently he posted "Portrait of a Cardinal" It blew this member away. I didn't realize how it affected me till I overheard two Starlings in my yard chatting ...

Mike (On the right) speaks first, " Darn that Gregg fella! Starlings were all the rage a while back. Then he puts up that Cardinal posting. Now Muggsy won't give us a second look and I'm feelin' down in the dumps"

Starry-eyed Jake replies, "Yeah I know Mike ... But, wasn't it a fantastic picture? ... I almost wish I was a Cardinal"

With that Mike had a stroke and fell off the perch. I wasn't fast enough to get a shot of him hitting the ground ... Drat!

Wow! Mike died and was re-born as a Cardinal? And what a beautiful Cardinal he is. This is great John, one of the funniest story's I have seen here. And your photo of Mike and Jake is great too. So... your birds talk? mine do too. Thank you for liking "Portrait of a Cardinal" so much, hearing that from you and seeing this, has made my day. Thank you so much my friend....Gregg

Yet another smile here John :) I just found your writeup wonderful and the capture of these two in conversation is too much. What a delight to see. Thanks for this one.

I really like the detail and the color of this shot. Your story is marvelous. I know why the birds were jealous, but they should be happy now! Diane

Poor, poor Mike! Sure the cardinal is a beautiful bird and very photogenic, but if Mike had only seen that lens trained on his every move, he might still be with us today! I love the narrative, John and the photo, of course!

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Poor Mike! He looks already a bit unwell here. A "cardinal shock" can be fatal for such heart patients.
Thanks John for this wonderful photo and for the link you put in to show us the cause of the shock.

You have lost it, Muggs! I'm calling an ambulance. They will wrap you up in a white sheet and take you away. Pack your bags.

I actually like this shot better than the cardinal. The personalities of these birds come right out and that really makes this picture special. They really do look like they're having a conversation! Jesse
