This is great Nigel ... it turned out very well. Gorgeous colors & the background looks just fine to me. Looks like you are having fun with the new camera. I've had mine for 2 months now & I am still experimenting with all the settings. Very well done.

Yes, the flower turned out lovely Nigel. Makes up for the background, which isn't that bad. Just the yellow overlapping thing. And like Andrew said, just like a pic out of a magazine!

Yep, the flower looks great. You could probably cut out the flower and play with different backgrounds, but this looks good though!

Nigel, you're way too sensitive and talented at your age. You have a real eye and I'm guessing a bright future in photography if you choose that direction. It's okay to have the background clutter. When you take a close shot like this, the apperture is such that only the object you focus on is sharp and the blurred edges actually frame your prize. Well done young man! I need to give you a real critique of this so you understand what you've done. The composition - the lily upper right of center - adds interest. The bright yellow color against the dark foliage are great contrast. The sharpness of the main flower draws the eye in and diagonal line of the out of focus blooms give the image movement. You have created a beautiful piece of art and I hope you'll keep it up! anne

Great work.. i really like the focus. The lighting could be better.. but i imagine this is what you had to work with so i wouldn't be too harsh. Keep it up.
