This is a white faced whistling duck. They're called that because they have white faces and whistle. This one was looking at me because I was whistling. I wasn't white faced though. I was red as a beetroot. Well, so would you be if you were sitting on the floor whistling at a duck.

I am sure you made an amusing sight Nigel! I can just see the passers by looking sideways at each other wondering if you have lost it! hehe! don't worry - all us photographers suffer from the same thing, along with people posing if they see a camera pointing in their direction! :) .....but it is worth it if you capture the photograph you are after and you did this well here - even the duck looks quite bemused! :)

Never seen this variety of duck, as I'm sure he'd never seen your breed, LOL. I can just picture you, Nigel, whistling away. Great clarity on your subject.

You sure you're not an owl, because you're a hoot. Great photo and narrative is very good as well. I thought ducks quacked but what do I know. You needed Whistler's Mother to help you get ducks attention. Makes me want to come to Caedes get together to watch your antics. Good post Nigel.

What a beautiful shot, Nigel. The colours of both the ducks and the out of focus background are wonderful. I see your next upload is called "Nuts". It's not a picture of you whistling at ducks is it?

Nigel, the clarity and detail, again, are excellent. And, such rich texture! You have taken your game to another level. You are using color to form diagonals going brown to green, left to right. The white faces merely color stops between the two strong base colors. I am very impressed with this shot and even more impressed that you were sitting on the floor to take it. If I sat on the floor, I would whistling too; for help in getting up!!!!!

I'm going to have to find a sound clip of what these pretty birds sound like..were you able to copy the whistle? I'm not going to make a joke about your efforts..many have before me and done it so well, that I can't think of any others to use. I will say she looks as though she's wondering what all the commotion is about..great shot and the colors are rich and a treat!!
