The Barbican is a huge concrete arts and residential complex about 5 minutes from where I live in the centre of London. When they were built in the 1980s the towers were the highest in London - the planning regulations were specially amended so that they could be built. It's an impressive place but I've never found it easy to photograph. This is as close as I've come to taking a picture I'm happy with. For more on the Barbican Centre click here. It has its own postcode too, EC4, and it's the postcode with the highest average income in the UK.

Just looking at it from the outside, I would never have guessed that it houses so much entertainment! Even if you couldn't get it all in the picture, the link you sent along helps the larger picture get across !!

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

It's too bad that people aren't like the buildings. When there's no more room they expand upwards instead of outwards. Great shot and great link. I think I'll go in and attend a London Symphany performance. If I played in their group they would change name to London Sympathy Orchestra. Good post Sir Nigel.

The London Palestine Film Festival sounds interesting. Very nice shot of that building. Looks like you need a fisheye lens to get the whole thing in, but then it would be distorted too much. Thanks for showing more of the London we don't see much.

Oh I like this shot! The geometric lines - I am glad you did not include the top of the building - this way it creates its own design. Makes a great desktop.

Great composition here Nigel, showing the lines of these buildings well. I love that soft tone of light used here too, I guess it was early am or late pm? Just one slight niggle, the tower block seems to lean a tad to the right, is that because you were using a wide angle lens? I know when I used my compact when I shot this place last year one of the tower blocks looked like a banana, and the only post of this place I had on here I've deleted as I thought it wasn't much good. Still a good picture though, and this place is a must visit for us I think when I come up to London.

A formidable building and a tough one to shoot, Nigel. Something tells me you're not through trying to capture this one.
