I went to Fountains Abbey a few weeks ago when I was in Yorkshire for my lovely friend Alison's wedding. This one's dedicated to our Bob, because I know it's one of his favourite places. I hope that back's getting easier fella.
You shot this from exactly the same place as I did pal!...
Wadda view, and wadda a bloody great shot too!....
I just bet you were 'gob-smacked' at this place?...
did you go all the way round?...Did you see the deer?...
Thanks for the dedication Nigel...and yes, it is one of my favourite 'haunts'!....
The back problem is more severe than first suspected...I pleaded with my Doc not to send me to hospital...I can get more gentle 'nursing' from wor-lass at home!....It's great being waited on 'hand and foot'....I enjoy the daily showers?.....'cough cough'!!
Beautifully composed, Nigel. The wildflowers and the water in the forground bring an added interest to this wonderful old abbey. Very detailed, almost idyllic setting.
I rated this in my voting booth with maximum. This old British castle so rich in history looks very charming and peaceful. I image during the night the image change into a more severe one.
Congratulations Nigel.

Outstanding image Nigel. Superb in everyway. Looks like a wonderful place to visit. I remember seeing some of this place in Bob's postings. You sure did a great job my friend. Such a lovely image to sit back and take in. sandi♥
Love the composition on this one Nigel, and the way you captured the sunlit grass to the right. I like the touch of the flowers to the left too, this looks like a painting, and a definite wall hanger!
yes - its a top location and perfect POV for the shot - most people never bother to look for the more natural position to catch the abbey in. very nicely done - the lighting has worked really well for you too.
Well, this one is, of course, on my hard drive. It's one of the best of that abbey I've seen, and I've seen it from a lot of different perspectives. Your work is flying off the charts, Sir Nigel. I think I'm going to hear the crowd clamoring for a tutorial soon!

Appears I am a little late here. I agree with everthing said before me. This so very well composed with this perpective. Moving a bit to the left allowed for the inclusion of more interior detail which in turn has added much dimension and depth. The creek at first appears to lead the eye out of the image but then you see the stone archway bridge. From there it is just natural to move across to the Abby. Kudos my friend, this is one fine piece you have presented us with. Thank you.
Not much left to say Sir Nigel except that I really look forward to your posts. I know they are going to be great, well planned and perfectly edited. You can't rush gravy.
I love all of the shots of Fountains Abbey that are on here. It is such a picturesque place. You have a fantastic shot here, Nigel. The flowers and the stream really add to the wonderful composition. Excellent work.
Did you pass all the signs saying, " You are now entering Owd Bob Country. Please drive carefully and beware of random benches."?
Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey are magnificent places to visit. They just ooze history with every stone. fully up and running ,they must have been breathtaking. You have certainly done justice to this magnificent set of buildings Nigel.

Why not live a little and look at My Gallery.
So many fine points about this photo, most if not all have been already covered. Great composition, love the way you caught the little brook, the flowers, the sky, magnificent presentation of this old abbey.
