Fantastic image with excellent composition! It made me smile from ear to ear. I love how the sun looks.
But tell me... was the river this flooded or does the gate have another purpose.
Without a doubt Nigel this is a beautiful image of a quite desolate landscape. As Bob says the gate really catches your eye and the river takes you into the picture and leads you towards the distant hills and the thin, wintery sun. A definite favourite.

Simply lovely, really like the gate and the starry sun. Beautiful color and winding water to the horizon. Wonderful job! Saw it in the VB and 10/10 from me.
Nigel, I opened this from the new images, not knowing it was yours - it caught my eye! ....I like the simplicity of the image, but mostly the way you managed to capture the sun and the light across the water! Did you use a filter for this image? - if so I need to get one! lol!

Beautiful.
I have not the vocabulary to express what I felt when I saw : it's so obvious the composition had to be that way. It could be a painting nailed on my living-room that I could mind-dive into - not sure you'll get what I mean. It could be a support to day-dreaming, "une scène de théâtre pour un rêve éveillé" sums up what I think.
Beautiful shot and edit Sir Nigel. It makes me wonder what happened to the gate keeper. There is a scene in the movie Shane where the cattlemen ride up to the sodbusters homestead that reminds me of this. Obviously that scene caught my eye as did this one.
I was wondering about the effect of the sun, too. I can't tell if that is natural, or if you used a filter, or did it in post work. Either way, it's great. I like the calmness of the shot. To me, it has the feel of an Autumn day. Very nice, Nigel.
Beautiful and very well done. Taking shots against the sun is not easy but you managed it so well. This reminds me of the wetlands not far from where I live. Great work!
very lovely, serene, i like the gate , it adds some interest. the light is lovely, i know you will have enjoyed the lighting when you were there, low winter light can do magical things to the right shot. i like the starburst look on the sun, im guessing that is natural rather than a filter, although i could be wrong!
I see you 'captured' one of those 'sunstars' I had on one of my ocean photos also. I just love the simplicity of this photo Nigel. The perspective is just wondrous here. And I can almost hear and feel the quiet. It's so lovely of a photo. Verena
Shooting into the sun has it's merit too...(did you use a star filter?)...
The sky tells me it was a cowd day then!!!
Excellent work my friend!..
