This is my first shot at uploading an image as a PNG24 file. Seemed to have worked well. This is pure photoshop play. Hope you enjoy. It's one that you need to see fullsize to really enjoy. Let me know what you think of this.

Very nice, Nathan...love the colour...this is quite different from what you usually do ^_^
I always wonder how you create those orbs...is is possible to do in normal PS or do you have to use CS?
Anywho...

You did this all in Photoshop? WOW! It's awesome, Nathan. The "Crystal Ball" looks suspected in space and I love the colors!

very dark and ominous.. reminds me of the cover for Tool's Undertow CD.. i agree with Fae, this is a change from your normal work.. and quite an excellent deviation it is..

Your fiery gem really stands out and a nice smooth smokey action going on behind it. I'm trying to visualize it without the vertical and curved rules, are they really pivotal to this design? I still am hard pressed to give you anything but top marks. I love your stuff!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Alexis, you're probably right - but there's a flaw in the background right under that line - so it's not only a design piece, but it's hiding something ugly, too.

Very mysterious and sexy. It looks as if the red crystal ball is floating in front of a fiery throne. Well done!

Looks great but it kinda has a, creepy look which isn't bad at all, very different than what I've normally seen from you which I like, change is always good. Great job on this also!
