I love experimenting with textures. Here I've taken stock clipart of wood, wallpaper, leather, etc. and blended them together in Photoshop to create new textures. I drew the bear with the pen tool, then filled it with various stone texture layered one over the other to create a Kanab Wonderstone-like texture. This could make an interesting series: elk, bear, moose, bison, etc. Hmmm. Hope you enjoy.

Hi Nathan..I love this idea, and love the desing around the bear, the larger wooden looking part.but for the first time I dont seem to like the line desing you have around it...not sure what it is , or isnt, but somehow I think the bear would look better with a different "swirl" around it...maybe an elongated "S"? or something...but not an up and down S , maybe at an angle or sort of horizontal? I dont know for sure..but maybe try something different too? but I LOVE the colours of this and the mixture of textures...I do love the circle around the bear tho...plus HE is a good looking bear !!.Hm...you know the line you used when you did that one of my yellow rose? maybe a line like that in some sort of shape...(just a thougth my friend!)I just wish I could even come close to doing this..hey! how about a Cougar? would LOVE that for my desktop, its my favorite animal...well, ya know, since I have that little car n all hehe..

Thanks Andrew and Verena. The texture (line drawing) in the background are leaves - like the leaf litter on the forest floor. Appreciate your comments and suggestions.

The shadowing on the bear is great the way it makes it stand out, almost like a woodcut. You really fell into your element when you started paying around with photoshop. You're very talented, thanks for sharing all the wonderful images.

The leaves are such a most ornate and delicate part of this....they look like carved wood.

Have you stopped to calculate how much time you put in on these designs, Nathan? The amount of layering on your images is mind boggling. This is very well done . . . as are all of your images. This could be a table top. I always study the placement and size of things in your images. The placement of the bear is interesting. I like the bear off center, but I'm not sure that I wouldn't like it a bit better if the bear space was a bit bigger....just a matter of preference, really. This is a beautiful work of art, Nathan!

Thanks everyone. Wendy, the placement on this one follows the rule of thirds. If you divide the canvas into thirds both vertically and horizontally, the four vertices are good points of placement for the center of interest.

HI Nathan, this is without a doubt and to say the least, stunning! It is not surprising I would make that comment, right? It is a coincidence though, that Robert would mention a belt buckle, because, at first glance, a really classy purse or bag came to my mind, and boy would I be proud to carry it! (smiling)! Professionally done and of course worthy of 10's in my book! Sincerely, Marilyn

Very nice work. The wood-grain veneer adds another dimension to the piece that makes your eye start in the lower left, look at the bear, and then go to the leaves. Brilliant addition I say. I would not have thought of adding it.

I love this peice. I think the embossing in of the circle around the bear is almost too harsh though. The overall tone of this peice makes me feel like i'm back home in the North West. It reminds me of the bronze sculptures a friend of our family used to make. His patina's at the same textural feel to them as your desktop.
