Hard to resist a manipulation contest. :) Here's my submission: Once upon a time giants used to walk the land. They are very good at camouflage and hard to spot, but if you look you can see them sleeping in the landscape with the warm sky and feathery clouds as a cover. You'll have to look though - this one's subtle, but very obvious when you see it.

A giantess is there! Look at the skyline of the mountain. Do you see her sleeping head (nose, mouth)? She's not too hidden.

Nice job, Nathan. The photo's a goof one to start with. The broad sweeping green makes a good foreground, and the presence of the path (washout?) that falls to the right then meets with the bright green swath going to the left together form a nice curve from the center around to the left. The little house just fills out what would otherwise be an empty space.

This popped up in the voting booth and I thought for a moment "Wow, it looks just like a face, I wonder where this is??" A second later I realized it was a contest entry. It got a high vote from me, very clever idea and flawless execution.

I'm a sucker for mountains, my only complaint, the borders they don't work well for a desktop wallpaper.

02/11/06 11:48 PM GMT
Thanks for the compliment. On this one, the borders were a necessary part of focusing on the face in the mountain. A wider view detracts from that. Thanks to everyone for the kind compliments. This was a fun one to do.

Hi Nathan, how in the world did I miss this outstanding exhibit of talent!!!! My eyes went immediately to the top of the mountain, and there he was visibly clear and sleeping confortably, with his long hair streaming down the back of his head, his beautifully shaped features so distinct and with a story book likeness!! Oh so really well done Nathan! I love it! Into my favorites he travels, to rest well forever! High marks from me! Sincerely, Marilyn

The true false illusion you've made here is amazing !!

High mark from me as well and, imho, your entry in the context is clearly the very best. Your picture looks so real.

Actually I know a place in South of France where you do see a giantess sleeping in the mountain (but you see nearly all her body) I won't forget to shoot it for you when I'll get there :)

Congrats !

Thank you, Christophe. I'd like to see a picture of that mountain. We have a mountain here in Utah, Mt. Timpanogos, that has the image of a sleeping Indian princess in it's skyline, and a good story (also from the native Americans) behind it, too. Here's the the story... http://www.timpfest.org/about/legends_sleeping_woman.html

Very well done indeed, one of my favourite contest entries. The cottage is perfectly positioned in the image, too.. One thing though, there is a little too much blurring on some of the edges - perhaps they were a little more craggy before? ;) Still, a fantastic job. High marks!

G'day Nathan,
I loved this photo before I realised the face on the crest was there and I just thought it was a great photo of a rocky hill that captured the feeling of massive weight such hills can impart. Then I read that there was a giant hidden, found the giant, and was a bit let down (not your fault, the manipulation is excellently done.) that I was not looking at the "actual" rocky hill. lol. Manipulation aside the image is outstanding, I reckon the presence of the tiny cottage is the key to the feeling of massiveness you've captured. Great photography!

The Giantess Sleeps, her form turning to stone. The dull sun gently washing her form with rays of golden sun. The house below, a silent observer. Faintly resting on the edge of the grassy hills of the giantess...calm in its perspective. The clouds loft lazily above, and the giant, begins to sleep....

Great Work! The soothing feeling of calm overcomes me when I see this image, and I long to be there. Thank you for making my day.

Good one - A visual treat - vaguely reminiscent of an old ad from the Bell Telephone Company where the mountain was exchanging words with a coresponding cloud face.
Giants still walk the earth but they keep a low(er) profile.
