This is a Photoshop "watercolor" of my back field on a stormy day. My next door neighbor farms, so you can see his farm equipment, hay stacks, and horse pasture (across the fence). Hope you enjoy this. Again, if you'd rather have an unframed version of this use this LINK.

Each medium has it's quirks. I love how watercolors flow on wet paper - this is hard to duplicate in Photoshop. However, I love being able to fix mistakes in Photoshop - something transparent watercolor is very unforgiving about. I'm starting to really enjoy this photoshop technique - because I can color it my way, add my own elements (can you tell which trees I added in to balance the image?), just as I would if I were watercolor painting on paper.

Wow, what an incredible backyard view! And now that's two "keepers" from you in the same day. Thanks Nathan.

An amazing image Nathan. I really like the dramatic dark sky hovering over the landscape with just enough sunlight. I love this watercolor technique you are doing in Photoshop & thank you for sharing it. As for what trees you added it is very hard to tell. Looks like you are having fun ...excellent work.

I love how these watercolors of yours are turning out Nathan....they're absolutely gorgeous. An incredible view, the kind that makes you grateful to be alive. I bet it's it's soul stirring in the winter ! And...at a guess, I'd guess you put in the tree to the far left.

Basically, I used the two tutorials entitled "Creating a Sketch Out of a Photograph" as the jumping off point for this image. Then I start laying "washes" of color over it. Sometimes I'll do a FILTER-ARTISTIC-WATERCOLOR filter on the original photo, paste it into a layer on top, and set the blend mode to MULTIPLY. Usually I'll back off the opacity some on this layer. Once I have something that looks promising, it ends up being a process very similar to painting. I'll tweak an area by selecting it and doing CTRL J to copy it into a new layer, painting and manipulating it, then using the blending modes to blend it into the painting underneath. Hope this helps. A little hard to explain without having you here to watch over my shoulder.
