Jen (Jeenie11) let me use her "Magnolia" desktop wallpaper to experiment with Photoshop's "Blend If" sliders (Add A Layer Style button in the layers palette - Blending Options (top choice) - blend if sliders at the bottom of the dialog). You can split the sliders by holding the option key down (Macintosh). This allows you to blend in an image on the layer underneath depending on the lightness or darkness of the image in the layer you're working on. So I put fractals underneath Jen's flower and used the sliders to bring them into the flower itself. Cool. I added the butterfly and it's shadow to finish it off. Thanks Jen.

My biggest congratulations to both of you, as this is the greatest of flower beauty and loveliness I have seen recently!! Everything about this image makes my heart smile! The added touch of the sweet little butterfly is charming! Whatever the treatment given, it surely was sublime in all ways! Simply heartwarmingly beautiful! Sincerely, Marilyn

I've said it again and again and I'll keep saying it: you can't improve on Mother Nature!!

This, however, is definitely an exception!

You've "pearlized" the magnolia, and it is splendid. You've proved that there are exceptions to every rule. Such exceptions are *rare* mind you, like precious gems, but you've found one that works here. Congratulations to both of you!

Nathan, this is a very nice presention. I use PSP mainly so I'm not sure I know what you mean about 'sliders' - reducing the opacity on one layer to allow it to blend into other layers? - Patty

If I've viewed and commented on your post, and you liked my remarks then NO THANKS is needed...just getting to see your wonderful work is thanks enough for me!! Also BIG thanks to all who check out my work!! I appreciate any and all comments & feedback!!

I was fortunate enough this afternoon to get your photo in the voting booth...needless to say there isn't a number high enough to vote appropriately for this gorgeous post. Outsanding job. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you, everyone for all the compliments. Jen's photo was gorgeous to start with. Patty, I don't think there's any equivalent in PSP to the technique I've use here.

What a team the two of you make up!! I loved Jen's magnolia from the get-go and now I love what you have done to it. Butterflies always make me smile and magnolia's are a charming blossom in themselves. So, needless to say, I am grinning while I type this message! The way you changed the texture of the magnolia is awesome Nathan. Is this from using the fractals or are those strictly behind the image? The butterfly is so very realistic looking as well as the frame-up job you did to complete the perfect gift! It looks incredible on my desktop and I thank you both for the work you did to bring me such delicious eye candy! :~)
