Went exploring in the Nevada desert today. Found a place, Moapa Warm Springs - an oasis in the desert. There were all these tall wild palm trees growing along the banks of the Muddy River (what most of us would call a creek - but any flowing water in the desert here is called a river). The palms crowded the shore, creating a cathedral over the river. You could walk the river (the water was warm - about 86 degrees - from geothermal springs nearby) and be totally surrounded by these huge palm trees. What a fun place to explore. The place was once owned by Howard Hughes. Update 2012: Found out that this place burned to the ground last year. What a shame...

Nathan this is gorgeous! No wonder you had to photograph this, it's amazing and fascinating. I'm going to have to check it out and go there some day to visit. Can you give us a little info about the size of the palms and the creek maybe? Thanks, Bruce B.

Thanks for the 'dimension' update Nathan:) Gives it more perspective:):)

The palm trees are about 50 to 60 feet tall. The river is only a few feet wide at this point.

This has a 'another world' look to it.
Perfect placement of the palm frond lower left - it looks like a fan.
Thanks for sharing this exceptional natural beauty.
