The redwood forests emphasize the "big" - but there were many beautiful wildflowers growing amongst these giants. Photo I took on August 14, 2011.

They may be small but the quality of this image is top of the scale Nathan.
Beautiful, and a polished elegance to the image

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . When taking the time to see things around you, you can find beauty you never even knew was there. This is a beautiful flower and wonderfully captured by you.

I love the softness of this shot. It makes the blooms bloom. To be honest, the shadow on the lowest bloom bothered me at first. I think because of the background being so dark, one wouldn't expect the sun to be out - and it still kind of throws me. But after viewing it large and small several times, I think it works.

I thought I had all the answers, but it turns out I don't even know the questions. -Stephen Prothero (paraphrased)

Thanks. The dark background is due to the exposure setting I chose. If you pull the picture into Photoshop, and do a levels command, and bring up the midtones, you'll see all the background leaves. The flower was sitting in the sun against a shadowed background, and I had to take several exposures before I got one that didn't blow out the flowers. Wish I could say I planned it that way - but I just got lucky. The other 20 shots I took didn't turn out so well.

I love digital photography. I can try a setting and see the result immediately on the LCD display. If it didn't work, I can trash the photo and try again. I think I'd be in the poorhouse if we were still using film based photography.
