Believe it or not, the adult Sycamore Moth that emerges from this flamboyant caterpillar is a dull grey!
More like a Swan turning into an ugly duckling!!
What a beautiful capture. It immedietely struck me, the bright yellow and dark orange especially. The leaf is also a lovely pastel green contrasting fairly well against the catepillar. Good job on this close up! Thanks for sharing.
Incredible is what you are saying... the caterpillar looks amazing. Where did you found this vivid creation of mother nature? It is so furry and friendly looking...
There are some great photos of animals, birds, insects etc., on this site and this is right up there with them! Superb clarity and a fantastic capture.
We have plenty of Sycamore trees round here, but I have never seen this bright wonder! Fantastic capture - thank you for sharing this brilliant photo!

Anything that excites me for any reason, I will photograph; not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.

Hey there Mister Madman, wat'cha know that I don't know
Tell me some crazy stories, let me know who runs this show
Glassy-eyed and laughing, he turns and walks away
Tell me what made you that way
This just makes me have joy about all of life's amazing creatures. I bet Jim Henson was inspired by this sort of thing. Bravo, fantastic shot!!..........Amaris
Ah, we all go grey oneday!! He is a fellow creature with us humans. And I definetly had my hair those colors at one time in my life. Every color of the rainbow infact. But I have yet to have the spunk and coolness of the mohawk action our little pal here has. Maybe when I go grey I'll give it a try.
Good heavens! What a title. What a capture. I didn't even know this existed. One of your other captures came up in the voting booth which led me to examine your gallery. Wow. this is great.

I hope you didn't touch this... I remember leaning on one like this (but not as spectacular) accidently on a fence post once and it stung and itched like crazy! I imagine the colors are a warning to anything that might eat it... and maybe the moth it turns into doesn't need such a warning... but whatever the reason, it is a wonderful specimen.
That’s an awesome shot of the most spectacular caterpillar I have ever seen. I rather suspect that Samatar is correct about it being poisonous. I brushed past a little hairy green one with red spots on it. The burning was instant and persistent.
That is so cool! I've seen some bright fuzzy caterpillars, but none like this!
Kinda reminds me of one of my little sisters fuzzy pillows...don't think I'd want to snuggle that though. ^^
