You might think this is a fly but it in fact one of the unusual Clearwing Moths; in this case the Currant Clearwing, because it's larvae feed inside the stems of Currant bushes. It used to be a horticultural pest but with fewer allotments in the UK [and so less Blackcurrant bushes!] this diminutive beauty [about 10mm long] is becoming scarce. I was privileged to discover a colony on my neighbours currant bush :o)
