I was working in Malmesbury today and during lunch sneaked off to see the abbey. This structure dates back to the 12th century and at its greatest was 3 times this size! The original timber structure this replaces was founded in 6th century! [Malmesbury is one of the oldest boroughs in England]. The Mill is no longer in operation - but the River Avon most certainly is! In full spate after heavy rain; good job I had me wellies on;o)

Amazing building and a great shot of it, even the sky was so very grey that day. I still like that.

Superb piece of photography here, Steve and you've achieved the same marvellous degree of clarity in this landscape shot as you do in your close-ups of bugs. Heartily enjoyed your commentary too! Downloaded and on my desktop. Excellent!

Very nice photo for such a grey and wintry-type day. Brian just posted another bit of history and so it's nice to come here next and get some more. I think everyone should grab some time for themselves during the day. And if you have to sneak out..then the shame's on the company you work for and not you, Steve !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful photo, gorgeous area. I saw the river Avon at Stratford and Shakespeares theatre a few years back, but missed this wonderful Abbey..

I love to see great buildings that are built to enhance their surroundings. This building really does that here. Great eye and thanks for sharing!

Beautifully composed shot. The architectural interest as well as the natural element make for a beautiful picture. Thanks for the history too! Diane

I really like the restrained and muted tones in this shot. There is so much to look at - nice work :)
