Here is another of my soldier pictures. Please, I want critique, or at least a real comment. I know that people mean well when the post comments like, "Very well done", but that means nothing. Thanks.
Well,... it needs something. I'm not sure what though. Maybe a very slight and faint overlay of a real soldier's face - just a hint of it. Just a thought.
You must be rather pacifistic by nature which I like VERY MUCH. To be honest I would not rather use it as my desktop - hate violence and all things like agression, fight etc. I do hope I am not wrong to say that you are a pacifist ... Yours SAM
First if this is to be a dramtaic composotion, I think the drama is lost in the scale and detail, the lighting fails to add to the drama. The angle could improve and point of focus with better depth of field. For example the working with the same concept use a macro lense and get in low and close, on the face as the point of perspective, angle the camera or figure so that the body is behind the head and you catch a glimps of the blood and guts but the focus is on the face. Shoot at dusk in low light, if to dark add some artificial soft light, a soft LED torch works really well. That is my opinion, hope it helps
As I was going to suggest similarly. Low angle, face first, shallow DOF.. change in lighting.
On the plus side of things, compositionally speaking .. having your subject matter in the left-hand side area does add to the perceived/experienced tension.
For whatever reasons, cultural or how our brains work ... having our eyes arrested immediately or soon (as 'we' typically view stuff from left to right).. works towards that evocative goal.
And if I may be bold, think a B & W presentation might provide an assist on the drama front as well.
That stuff aside..
Always interesting to see what images you come up with and present to us, Paul. :o)
I love the idea and the theme, but I think a different angle might serve it better. Looking at it from this high up seems a bit strange and detached. If you could get a macro closer up and from a slightly lower angle, it might give it a slightly more close feel. But very nicely done none-the-less. Keep it up! Keep experimenting!
