Taken on November 12th, 2006 as an especially active lightning storm swept over Pt Rickeby, South Australia. It was an incredible night, but it still took me a fair few eight-second exposures to get this one...
This pic is so cool. The best way to admire a lightning, to see its beauty, is in darkness... & this shot has it all, superb lighting & composition. Well done. Paul
No Sig, Just, I want to say "Thank You" to all of the talented photographers for giving me the most beautiful desktops and screensavers I could ever imagine. The artistry here is breathtaking.
I am glad, you did this. It is awesome and great. I am glad, I am at home, hiding behind my blanket, since I do not want to meet so much power in reality. Thanks for taking that job for me. Beautiful. I hope, I will meet it at the voting. I love to give 10s.
Hey there Mister Madman, wat'cha know that I don't know
Tell me some crazy stories, let me know who runs this show
Glassy-eyed and laughing, he turns and walks away
Tell me what made you that way
Just saw this in the voting booth and had to comment.
This photo is awesome! Good contrast, focus control and the use of perspective leads the eye along the dock to the lightning! Well done, got a high mark in the booth and went straight to my fav's!
"To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy."
~ Henri Cartier-Bresson
A friend sent me the link to this one...and it's definetly a goodr'. Did you plan to have the jetty be light up or was it fluke? If you don't want to say, I'll asume you live by the "a good magician never reveals his tricks" rule.
Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb. - Churchill
I was so lucky to get this fantastic image in the voting booth... wonderful capture, its so hard to get a lightning shot, you have shot it perfectly.. the whole scene of the pier and water gives it a wonderful dramatic effect.. excellent work
Saw this in the VB scored high in my eyes... thought it was excellent photography. Came here to let you know my thought ... "THIS IS EXCELLENT PHOTOGRAPHY"
Brilliant! Amazing! Great composure and what we can see of the textures. lol. I love how the dock draws your eyes through the picture to the lightning bolt. Fantastic! Into my favorites!
What a stunner! I wish you have worked on the horizon line though. Weren't you afraid of the lightning stikes? You have captured a real spectacle of wild forces of mother nature!
this is AMAZING!!! i love the high contrast, and the clarity and definition of the lightning is incredible. it looks like there is a person at the end, very powerful and dramatic scene. great capture! ~abby
Nice shot. I wish we had more storms like this in my area after dark. They always seem to come when the sun is still up or when im busy. You did a good job with this one. It is one thing to capture a lightning bolt, but to compose it in a shot like this is another thing. Good foresight on putting something interesting in the foreground. Since i always like some suggestions ill pass on what i noticed in this one. It is minor but could also be easily fixed. The horizon is a little crocked. I think it could benefit from a quick straighten. Tough to get that right in the dark:P.
Definitely worth it! I don't think this could be any better, the way the lightening comes down to the end of the dock (pier?) LOL, I'm a country girl in the city. The detail is very clear, and sharp even though it's dark. Mind if I ask what camera and settings if you remember?
