I was so happy to see this red squirrel. There are not a lot of them left around here and they have the general appearance of a chipmunk...but they are a breed apart. This sweetie was looking furtively around for some corn or suet that used to occupy this space and when first spotted she was actually sleeping there..Of course I scared her into flight as I approached, but I had to show off her great colors...Ain't nature grand?

Great capture PJ. You had to be fast too didn't you. Yes nature is grand. I've had squirrels sleep in my feeders before. I think a bird feeder is a squirrels version of a fast food drive thru. They must fall asleep waiting for service. Her eye sure does stand out. Love the title. Good job. Terry

What a cute shot that is. Red squirrels, once a common site in the UK, until the American Grey Squirel was introduced and drove the red squirrel out of the habitat. Sadley they have never really recovered though if you look very hard, they can still be seen in parts of the country. This is a lovely shot of one of my favourite animals it has to be said. Thanks for sharing

Very nice shot PJ, I know how hard it is to get a good shot of a squirrel. The ones here are big and bright red in colour but no chance to photograph them because they are very very fast!

The red guys are very rare, I've only seen a couple here in VA and I always had to ask "was that a RED squirrel??'. And they ARE fast! Great shot PJ, wish we could have seen him snoozin' - maybe next time... Thank you! ~Mary~

I was wondering ... when I was a kid (sometime in the q4th century) there used to be tons of these around ...they used to pick on the chipmunks a lot. We used to think seeing a grey one was cool! This year I have been pleased to see one or two!! Nice shot.
