I had no idea what I was letting myself in for when I took this photo and then thought of the book "Ashes of Roses" written by Mary Jane Auch. I found the tragic history behind the story HERE PJ

EDIT

Note I have changed the link to a much less disturbing article about the connection between the book and the story. The complete story, which was the inspiration for the book can be found by searching for "The Shirtwaist Fire", which happened on March 25, 1911 in NYC in which 149 people perished.

That's a great macro, PJ. The story is so sad, with all those people jumping out the windows. Reminds me of 9/11.

Well, the roses are quite beautiful, but the story is very depressing. I think they used different chemicals in fabric treatment in those days and so the fabric must have been very flammable. Remember it wasn't but a couple of decades ago that they started to put flame retardants in clothing, especially children's nightware. Not that those retardants are safe for us or the environment either. A sad story with a wonderful tribute to the fallen in these lovely roses.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

A fitting rendition to the story behind its conception. The lighting is almost prayerful. I dare not say any more for fear on disturbing the magic.

Great photo PJ. Did you take this in your garden this morning. lol. I see from watching football game what weather is like in your area. Be careful. I like all the roses with the shadows. The almost look like paper they're so fragile. Reminds me of song Paper Rosie by Gene Watson. Still one of my favorites. Great Christmas photo.

PJ, believe me, I'm used to read first the already given comments, but this time I didn't to prevent any possible influence on my opinion. I was very impressed at first sight of this image. When I say: "It's a stunning image", than it's only an attempt to describe the mood it brought me in.
