Ok – so this is my second restoration of a shot from the very first shuttle – Enterprise - maiden test flight thirty years ago. The original old image was very degraded and literally been held together by the noise in it. By the time I had cleaned all the noise out of this one it was beginning to look too sharp and clinical – almost vectorised – so I pulled it back and reintroduced some of the original to keep it looking a little aged. Manipulated with Adobe CS3 & Noise Ninja.

Just by it's design Phil, it almost appears as though it is an illustration!
The comparison from the original to your clean copy is amazing! I don't know how you do what you do, but I am glad that you did it for me to enjoy!
When I show the kids images in your 'space' folder, they ask me where did I get them...I always reply "my friend Phil". They then ask with he innocence of children, "can we meet your friend Phil"? lol
They are being educated through your work as to what happened in Space awhile back as well as currently.
Thanks for all you do to keep me educated. Deeply appreciated ;=)

Thanks for all your work. ALL of your restorations have put NASA to shame. They should be thankful there are people who ACTUALLY like space photos. Few understand the time and effort to remake photos. BTW I dislike the index and how so many people do not take the photo for what it is, rather than what they like. Thanks again. Ted

Phil, this is so cool! I remember 30 or so years ago when the Enterprise was flown to DC, it flew over our neighborhood and everyone was standing outside watching for it. When it flew over, I took a picture, only to discover later that I had left my lens cap on! We recently went to see the Enterprise at the Udvar-Hazy Center in Dulles, Va, and it's even more impressive close-up. Thanks for this picture!
