This shot is a westward-looking oblique view of Tropical Storm Fay, as seen about 4:43 p.m. on August 19th from the International Space Station from a vantage point of 220 miles above the Atlantic Ocean just north east of the Bahamas. This panoramic view includes the Gulf of Mexico to the west of the storm.

Original image?

Always curious to see the 'before' as well as the 'after'.

And since I am here, did you use the image in the above link? As in, your source image was in JPEG format?

Comparing the two, the original seems to have a slight greenish colour cast ... yours? And no slight intended here, the magentas are a tad more prominent. So ... another question, or two, if I may ...

Just a quick clean-up and post? And ... am I missing something regarding your edits?

And on that last note, I do prefer your version/rework of the original.

As well, I am fascinated by such imagery. Scale, and talk about putting a perspective on things ... thanks for sharing this one with us, Phil. I appreciate your time and talents in bringing us the 'bigger picture'.

An amazing atmospheric capture Phil. I can gather from the view that the tropical storm may have been in full force. Very nicely presented & thank you for sharing.

Les - you are correct - all that has been done to this is a colour balance shift and a slight smart sharpen. it's tough to do much else since the ISS crew had their decent Kodak DSLR's taken off them and were given Nikon D2's instead - they just cant hold any level of detail at all and weren't really designed for this kind of work anyway. too much editing on these shots just results in complete disintegration of the fine detailing such as it is.
