A ground based shot of the centre of the galaxy taken by the one and only Mr.Robert Gendler. Over 60 hours of camera exposures and gigabytes of data to create a 300MP+ montage – needless to say, viewing at full size (even in this heavily reduced format) is a must.

Is that Galaxy the Milky Way? I always loved shots from the Hubble especially the ones showing pictures of new stars being born. Whenever they have a show on TV about the Universe I always watch them...thanks for sharing this unique shot Phil

Why do the pictures come out square when the lens is round??

It's amazing what light will do, over the stretches of time and space. Thanks for posting this.

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.

What a beauty Phil....the colors are so pretty yet softly muted. The stars shine, glimmer and one can almost visualize them twinkling in this when viewed full size.

Little Nick will be pleased as punch to see another cool image of yours. He loves these galaxies..they totally fascinate him!

Thanks for all the work you did to post this.

To my favorites as well as my harddrive and this is my new desktop for Independence Day here in the US,,,,,Mother Nature's fireworks. :)

Thanks Phil!

yes - it is the heart of our home - the Milky Way. more impressively this is not from an orbital telescope but sourced from telescopes here on earth with lots of patience, dedication and kick ass post processing.

last night I also observed some strange event in the sky - a starry object [of the light intensity of Venus] moving slowly across the sky like a plane but IT WAS NOT any spacecraft.
It moved with a speed that was barely dinstinguishable but obvious.
Am I to apply for some prize ?
I tried with them mix squirrels, but Mick [LANJOCKEY] said I was wrong. So perhaps you know something about last night's stars and/or planets changing their positions or dying or just being born.
I am ready to collect any prizes - preferably Nobel - at a very short notice LOL
Charming image - more seriously - mystical yet this is us.
