Stéphano Honoré, better known as Menwar, playing a set at the famous Kenzi Bar in Flic en Flac. He was one of the pioneers of modern séga music, and is incredibly popular in Mauritius as well as touring and performing in Canada and Europe. Here he is playing a dzendzé ya shitsuva, a type of primitive lute/guitar hybrid originating from the Comoros islands. Very few African musicians use this instrument anymore so it’s good to see ancient methods being brought back into modern music.

I can just feel his joy and his talent! I love these photos you've been posting. There is such feeling in them. And I imagine it's a wonderful place to be. Music of any kind is awesome, much less something so rare. Thanx so much for sharing these photos and people...Verena

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
