I use to work in a steel mill as an electrician. So I snapped a few photo's while worked there. I thought they were pretty cool, so here is one of them. This is electric arc furnace used to melt steel scrap. Steel is just the element iron that has been processed to control the amount of carbon. Iron, out of the ground, melts at around 1510 degrees C (2750F). Steel often melts at around 1370 degrees C (2500F).

A unique photo and interesting facts from the steel mill. For some reason, inferno comes to mind..and not because of quality of your shot, Charles.

You have captured a great photo of the steel making process. That type of industry is on the decline in the US as companies move manufacturing to other countries. I hope your job was not one of the ones lost to that trend. Thanks for this view.

Just looking at Your image gives one the feeling of heat and fear, Charles. I hate to think of working around this every day; it seems it would be frightening. The chain on the left is interesting - does it not melt? And what kind of a container is used that does not melt at these high temperatures?
