the heron is staking claim to its territory. when i was first viewing this, there were 2 of them exhibiting this stance. i couldn't position myself quickly enough to get both birds.
Great composition. I think the out of focusness that we are seeing here looks like it's the cameras fault. Now I don't know if it is or not but that's sure how it looks. Nice shot though, like Mark said, keep trying!

Awesome photo. Shame it is slightly out of focus but the potential is there for an amazing shot as apart from the focus this would almost definately have a c-index up in the 90s.
Thanks for sharing
I wouldn't give up on this picture even if it appears a bit out of focus. I would suggest
1) a pass with a noise filter - this has a smoothing effect to soften everything - or
2) a pass with a sharpen filter - this brings edges back into focus - or
3) don't crop a small piece of an image, leave it at 800 X 600 and add a frame - you will avoid pixelation.
You should make sure your camera is taking large (hi-res) images which give you more room to crop the image if need be.
Wow thats an awesome picture! I love herons,, we had one crash land in our back yard one year and we nursed it for a few days. Such majestic birds, and you caught this one in such a nice pose.
