This image was taken at Cascade Locks on the Columbia River right underneath the Bridge of the Gods. All Barge traffic can only go through Bonneville Dam during daylight hours and the train was stopped waiting for another train going the other way to clear the main tracks. Daylight was right at the point to where the barge was getting ready to start up and the train moved shortly thereafter. Ten minutes later and, other than the power transmission tower in the background, it would be hard to see much of mans’ presence from this vantage point. It makes an interesting study in contrasts. Man against Nature, Hard against Soft.

But words are things, and a small drop of ink, falling, like dew, upon a thought produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions think and smile. Art is everywhere, except it has to pass through a creative mind.

I knew it was yours just from the thumbnail! An absolutely gorgeous shot. I like how the hills in the far background become a bit fogged and blurry. Lovely photo and well done.

Art is the perception of the creator. Meaning is the perception of the viewer. acceptance is the perception of society.

The size of the barge and train really show off the depth of the valley too. From here they almost look like toys around a Christmas tree.

I'm really impressed with the lighting and shading within the photo. Just beautiful! You've really captured the spirit of the gorge. I know exactly where you took the photo, since I visit this spot myself. Every go to the island in the middle of the river? My favorite place to unwind. Thanks for sharing.

Great photo and composition. There is so much to lead your eye, from each element itself to the rich colors that fade into a gradation. Nice!
