This image was taken just south of The Dalles Oregon looking west to Mt. Hood. The time of year is the fall and it was just a little nippy, so the old breath on the front of the lens trick worked really well. I really like the depth this image has to it. It gives a feeling of how big the wide open spaces of the western part of the United States is. ------------- I added this information on 10/05/2004, for those that might be interested. Mt. Hood is located approx. 60 miles (96 Kilometers) from Mt. Saint Helens, which is an active volcano that is emitting ash and steam in a daily fashion right now. Mt. Hood is also a volcano but is dormant for the time being. Mt. Saint Helens is the only active volcano in the Continental US and Canada right now.

But words are things, and a small drop of ink, falling, like dew, upon a thought produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions think and smile. Art is everywhere, except it has to pass through a creative mind.

It's a beautiful shot and I love the different elements. I didn't even see the snow capped peak until I had dowloaded a larger version.
And there is still something else for me to find here. It seems that the different elements need to be changed in relation to each other. The grassy hillside and Mt. Hood work well together, but the completely straight line of the plateau does not seem to connect them. Not sure if you took any more from different angles?

Very nice image. Sadly it shows just how much air pollution we have in this country. Well done.

What a soft and peaceful feeling this photo has. I never knew about the breath on the lens trick. I'll have to try it. Thanks

It's a great pic. I love how the clouds add to the image. You don't think you could try to get something of Mt. St. Helens now? A picture of the ash plumes would be awesome. I love mountains, especially volcanoes!

Well, Michael, this is another one of yours that I missed seeing on the sight but spotted it "elsewhere" and went looking for it in your gallery. This is beautiful.

If I were a lawyer who has been charged with defending this photo, the following would be my closing statement:"Ladies and Gentlemen, What an exquisite way to pay tribute to a majestic creation. The soft grasses sooth the busy mind. The background hills with their wonderful array of shadows, excitedly directs the viewer's attention to the main thing...Mt Hood... slowly rising from the haze and laying claim to nature's spotlight. I rest my case!"

This is just lovely, and so soft. From my deck I can see a very similar view of Mt. Hood, but from the other side. It's such a beautiful mountain, and I'm surprised to find a picture so close to my home on here! Neat!

Nice shot with an interesting effect. You said, "Mt. Saint Helens is the only active volcano in the Continental US and Canada right now." I guess you don't consider Alaska to be part of the North American Continent.
