Ok, so it's pretty dark. I don't edit my photos, (I have no way to do it) but I just love this one. This was taken in Oregon, deep in the woods in the evening. Also, my dinky little camera is a Nikon CoolPix S6100.

"Watson! Watson!"

'Yessir?'

"I believe we have solved the mystery of the "Small Picture!"

'Very good, sir. Very.. good. Bravo!'

Ready?

Two parter here.. why your images are being posted in small resolution sizes.

And secondly, that of some built-in and in-camera editing functions/filters that are available to you.

Let's start with taking a look at your camera's manual. Which, if you lost it, can't find it ... can be found online here:

Nikon COOLPIX S6100 User Manual

You can, if you wish, download the pdf. file using the link just below "Nikon COOLPIX S6100 User Manual" in the upper left-hand side of the webpage linked to above.

It appears in light blue; "Free Nikon COOLPIX S6100 manuals!"

Clicking on this link takes you to another webpage and on that page you will see..

User Manual (Adobe pdf. file symbol here)

216 pages

/\ Clicking on that will download the manual.

Ok, back to the mystery of the "Small Picture".

Turns out, that "Small Picture".. literally, is an option available to you in the Editing Menus.

And I quote;

"Create a small copy of images suitable for use as email attachments."

Follow along with the screenshots below.. taken from the linked webpage ... to locate where in the (webpage) document this stuff is explained:

Nikon COOLPIX S6100 Manual - top of webpage

As you can see the document is contained in the body of the webpage. Placing your cursor in it.. you can then scroll down and through it. Which leads to this part:

Nikon COOLPIX S6100 Manual - Editing Functions

Click.. and you are automatically taken to that section of the document/user manual.

Let's take a a closer look at some of the options for the Editing Functions. In particular, two, the first and the solution to the "Small Picture" mystery:

Editing Function - Small picture

Some how, you are editing your photos before posting/uploading them to the site here using this function. Your camera is capable of taking photos/images up to 4608 x 3456 (16M). Which is the "High Image Quality" setting.

Even at the lowest 'image quality' setting (3M), your camera will produce photos of 2048 x 1536.

So.. check before you upload if you have inadvertently, or are.. inadvertently selecting the Filter of "Small Picture".

Now then.. other in-camera Editing Functions that are quite useful.

For example, with your photo here.. D-Lighting.

And I quote;

"Create a copy of the current image with enhanced brightness and contrast, brightening dark portions of the image."

I downloaded your photo and had a go to show you the creative possibilities. Here are the results of adjusting the Shadows (like I did with your Space Needle shot):

"Oregon Waterfall" - Shadows adjusted

Your 'dinky little camera' is jammed pack with good good stuff. Grab a drink and have a read through the manual. Seriously. Don't have to digest the entire thing in one sitting, however.. as indicated by the photos/images you have uploaded ... and this one is no exception ... you have a really good good eye for composition.

Right.. one last thing.

"I don't edit my photos, (I have no way to do it) but I just love this one."

Aside from in-camera editing/post processing.. have a freebie image editing software/program for you. And it is used quite widely by other members on the site and it is quite powerful, as well:

Photofiltre

PhotoFiltre 6.5.3 / January 2012

English version with setup installer and Ask Toolbar (4 Mb)
Includes the Ask Toolbar for Firefox and Internet Explorer.
PhotoFiltre and the Ask Toolbar can be uninstalled separately. (<--- THIS IS IMPORTANT! DON'T INSTALL THE ASK TOOLBAR!)

If you are uncomfortable installing the program yourself, ask a friend to assist you. And don't install the added crap. Just the program itself.

I do.. hope you manage to sort out the 'small picture' problem, first. Then, delve into the edting function stuff.

As mentioned above.. you have a good good eye.

And this is.. a nice shot (just needs some adjustments/editing).

Thanks for sharing it with us. :o)
