We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"
Dynamic is the first word that springs to my mind. The sky treatment and the flowing water bring your eye straight to the bloke with his umbrella. It’s certainly the best b & w that I have seen for a while.
wow, i just had this in the vb and came to say what a great shot!! love it, did you do the zoomy effect on the sky after the shot or with the zoom as you took the shot?
I'm not normally a fan of portraits or verticals since their orientation makes it hard to use as a wallpaper and portraits are more for family than world-wide viewing, but I really like this one for its aesthetic qualities. Black and white always has more pathos and emotion, the shutter speed allows for the externals on this shot to appear to eddy and whirl around the stationary figure, and the high contrast and shadows under the umbrella remove the figure's identity and allows the viewer to place himself in the photo. I just think it's an all-around great shot. You can take the 66 c-index rating I'm seeing here to the bathroom with you. It means nothing; concentrate on the comments only. It's a great addition to your already excellent gallery.
I feel a bit of enchantment here, Priyantha . The solitary man is almost unreal, as if he's been transported from another land. The white water looks like silk around his ankles - I don't know how you made this so beautiful! The sky looks like an explosion has happened - this is a spectacular image, and one of the better B/W shots I've seen. Congradulations on such a stellar view :^)
Wow, is pretty much all I have to say for this picture. But I do know that can be very annoying. (Like when people don't give their in-site)
Love how the person is completely black so you can see who/what they are. And the sky is very intense. Tell me did you use any affects on it?
Any-who,
This is all over very well done.

Well, the +favs thing is and was an aforethought. This really is a great photo Priyantha.
And it certainly appears that you gave the framing and composition much aforethought as well.
Intially, and this may be because everything was 'near perfect' ... I did question the placement of the horizontal line of the umbrella itself with that of the actual horizon.
Not anymore though. I kept coming back to your photo here to see if the visual impact, along with any thoughts I had ... were lessened or changed. Visual impact is still there, despite repeated times of viewing and taking this one in ... thoughts changed and everything does indeed work well.
Very well done ... I enjoy this one very much.
And but of course, thank you for sharing your talents and creative efforts with us. :o)
