This morning, some Republican members of Congress were practicing for an annual charity baseball game. A gunman, who professed on social media to not liking Trump or the Republicans, opened fire on the players at the baseball field with an assault rifle. The gunman shot one congressman and two congressional security officers, before he, himself, was killed by the security officers' return fire. This was not the only shooting in America today. And I am sure that there were also far greater atrocities committed in the world. But after hearing about the shooting this morning, on a baseball field ... America's pastime ... I could not get this image out of my mind. So I decided to put it to canvas. Art therapy.

There have been times when I haven't agreed politically with one side or the other. My best guess is that the shooter was mentally unhinged especially since there were children at the baseball field. You don't shoot at aids and children if you don't like the president. Period.

However, your illustration is an excellent statement on society as well as being a wonderful work of art. The detail is exquisite...especially the bullet holes in the baseball. Fine work as always.

Dorothy Michaels: No, just Dorothy. Alan's always Alan, Tom's always Tom and John's always John. I have a name too. It's Dorothy, capital D-O-R-O-T-H-Y.

Yes, I usually stay out of the political infighting, Dorothy. But the utter senselessness of this act today haunted me. :(

"Haunting" is more than an apt descriptor for your image here, Lisa.

Admittedly, I did the proverbial double take.. as I was aware of the incident, just didn't expect this visual reminder.

It's particularly evocative.. and visceral.. in light of the tragic background story.

Nonetheless.. it is a great piece.

... ...

On a lighter note..

Heyyyyyyyy!

It would appear that the weeks that you keep us, your viewers, waiting for your next images.. is a myth!

So much for the beleaguered artist struggling against the clock.. to produce a piece!

... ...

Thanks for sharing your creativity with us. Not shying away from adding to my favourites, to be clear. This is really well done.

When political affiliation turns into such enmity and hatred this is what happens. There can never be protection from such crazy idiots. Hope the Congressman survives Lisa.

Good idea and a very good presentation of it.

A very appropriate artwork to make visual in a figurative way the terrible act of violence that has happened near Alexandria, Va, Lisa.
However, a difference of political insights should never lead to the use of weapons. A discussion based on arguments is the only solution. Too bad that fanatics choose the least resistant road. Think that will never change because it's inherent to the human nature.

Smiles at Les ... This one flowed out of me quickly, because it wasn't a work of art. It was an exorcism. I had to get that senseless, horrible, sad image out of my head.

And Dorothy is correct, this was more than just a reflection of a specific event, but rather a comment on the whole of the society in which I live. Hence the double-edged title.

But no worries, all. I will not continue to be fixated on political statement artistic posts. This was a one-time thing.

I have, after all, always truly believed that artists and philosophers resonate the highest ideals of mankind.

Lisa, your therapy post brings it full circle. No matter how we feel about things in life there is never a reason to do such terrible deeds. The things I'm seeing on news about that play, and the comedian who posted that terrible reflect of what she thought about the president is deplorable. I'm not stating my presidential support, just my feeling of the thoughtless acts of some, who post such terrible things and then when it comes back to bite them they say how sorry they are, really? I don't buy that. In any case this was very creative and shows us how that terrible news affected you. tigs=^..^=

I heard about the shooting in detail on the radio and your illustration certainly isn't a suitable topic for my usual witty comments. I've lived through the IRA terror campaign on the mainland and this country is now suffering with ihadist nut jobs similar to poor Israel. However it is the Grenfell atrocity that disappointed me the most Lisa.

Art therapy is a positive step in combating the cruel contradictions that tease the rational mind, bravo.(o:

Ron, speaking of politics ... I was thinking about you GOP style peach slices today (for 'peachin'). lol

Did you hear that two congressmen submitted a resolution to impeach Trump for obstruction? I immediately thought of your peach jar and smiled. :)

That's worth 10 big smackeroos right there. But you'll have to settle for creds.

Nuclear war is such an existential threat, that I can't even keep it in my mind. The more likely outcome is the US doing most of the beating, then spending the next half century apologizing for it, like the Germans. In a straight-up punching match, we could pretty much take on the world. The more likely outcome is the GOP gaming our democracy into one party rule, like Iran. Then it's just a succession of Republican dictatorships, each one eroding rights, violently suppressing dissent and degrading the environment so that the 1% can become the .01% More Animal Farm than Dr. Strangelove.

- they had come to a time when no one dared speak his mind, when fierce, growling dogs roamed everywhere, and when you had to watch your comrades torn to pieces after confessing to shocking crimes.
