Late this afternoon, somehow caught this immature male Anna's hummingbird in the classic hummer 'pose' while visiting the feeder! No triggers, strobes / multi flashes; f2.8 and 1/125th.
Can't always give individual thanks but I am so appreciative of everyone's comments and input. I truly enjoy seeing all of your posts and am always happy to see you at My Gallery. Thanks, Anita
Such sparkling clarity you've captured here that show the iridescent sparkles in his body and tail, the sharp color delineation in his wings and the eager anticipation in his eye as he obviously looks forward to the next sip of sweet nectar that is about to be consumed. That you also were able to capture him with such a nice backdrop of rosy tan helps to point up the realism in this post with the clear shadow. Composition is good here, although I must say I'd rather have seen him reaching for a real flower...maybe a cropped in one? Just a little prejudice of mine...don't mind the cynic in the crowd :) A superior post and I hope I meet him in the voting booth :)PJ
However do you get your shutter speed to be faster than this bird's wings, to have captured them so clearly? I know that's an ignorant question, but THIS ignoramus finds it quite a wonder! That alone would be enough to reccomend this photo.
It's also a good pose, with the feet held in tightly and the body curving.
I second anastasia's question. It must be pretty hard to catch this wonderful creature in action. you must have had tio adjust the shutter speed. great job.
i keep coming back to this and debating with myself about that shadow
on first glance it might seem that its a bad non diffuse flash photo
but really im in half a mind that you actually photoshopped that in when it wasnt there ;)
its brilliant (now that ive decided!!! lol)
it gives our eye something range against and puts the image in a real world 3d context
if it was just a blank coloured field it wouldnt work half as well
the rest of it is simply stunning what a perfectly frozen humming bird
super lustre on its feathers and great catchlight twinkle in its eye
it doesnt get much sharper than this!
