Thanks Darryl, I'm glad you like it! I just desaturated it in Photoshop since I haven't read the owner's manual for my camera yet to figure out how to use the B&W or sepia setting. ;-)
oh... found it ooops they say its one of the biggest in his kind.
Murphy Windmill
Location: Southwest corner of Golden Gate Park (near 48th Ave & Lincoln)
Erected: 1905 (although see below for reports it wasn't finished until 1908)
A gift to the city from banker Samuel G. Murphy, the now sail-less windmill was the largest in the world when it was built. Able to pump 40,000 gallons of well water a day, its purpose was to save the city from the exorbitant costs for Golden Gate Park irrigation water that the Spring Valley Company charged.
The Murphy Windmill had a moment of fame when it appeared in a 1915 Charlie Chaplin movie, "The Jitney Elopement".
Teresa, I recognized this immediately, even before I downloaded it. I even know where you were standing. Used to work in The City, Spent many an hour wandering Golden Gate Park with my Grandmother, etc. Flood of memories. Living only 60 minutes away I suppose I should get up there more often. Lovely picture, great angle, and thank you for it being in Black and White. andrew
Thanks, reese for this image. The lines are made so much more vivid by your use of black and white. black and white doesn't get enough attention on caedes, does it. I find that if your subject has lots of lines and light differentials, that B&W is best.
